Dear Friend,
The Kenneth "Pete" Springer Memorial Foundation was an idea that began immediately after my father's death on April 12, 2000. I was teaching at school when I learned of my father's death. I immediately thought of the great pain and loss I was experiencing. I thought of my mother, my brothers, and our families. I wondered how I could survive without this great man in my life.
Over the next few days, weeks, and months, my thoughts turned to all of his friends, some of whom I met for the first time. You have shared with me so many kind words, gestures, and stories. I always knew what a great husband, father, and grandfather he was, but I never fully realized the influence he had on so many other people. I did not realize this because he was not the kind of person to blow his own horn. He was Dad to me and he was "Pete" to you. I realized that I was not the only one hurting from this loss.
The stories began with "I remember Pete helped me..." or "Pete came to see me when...." This really touched me. I realized that he not only did things for my family, he also did these things for everyone with whom he came in contact. He did not do these things out of obligation, but because he truly cared. He stood up for what he thought was right and helped people any way he could.
The Kenneth "Pete" Springer Memorial Foundation will continue to do the things that were important to Dad. These things include education, public service, and creating a better society. Dad left a legacy that will never be forgotten and a void that will never be filled. Help us preserve Dad's legacy.
Sincerely,
Vince B. Springer Chairman
